I’m a mixed media artist and I specialise in creating unique handmade highly original ‘statement art’.
I produce painted sculptures, designed to sit on a wall like a traditional canvas painting. They have a sheet of gypsum incorporated under the surface that allows me to sculpt as well as paint
I create a wooden subframe which is covered with sheet gypsum.
This in turn, after much finessing, is covered with canvas which means I have a surface that allows me to both sculpt and paint.
I try not to have preconceived ideas of what I’d like to achieve, but instead seek to meditate in front of the blank canvas and allow the image to emerge intuitively.
My vortices, for example, resulted from an intuitive sketch on to the surface of the canvas and then when I had an idea of what the piece was to become I set about sculpting the surface.
Then I usually paint the sculpted surface with thousands of small lines of colour. Again this build up of colour comes intuitively and so my art can be thought of as spiritual as it emerges from a sub-conscious place.
